Saint Patrick’s Day is the most important holiday in Ireland. The legend of Saint Patrick says that he sent all the snakes of the country and used shamrocks to teach about the Trinity. Ireland is called the emerald island because the countryside is very green with lots of sheep. Every March 17th, Irish people wear green clothes, take part in parades and sing traditional Irish songs. The most famous St Patrick’s parade is in New York. Other famous people in Ireland are the leprechauns, little dwarfs who live in the forest. They are unfriendly and hide gold in a pot under the rainbow.
YOU WEAR GREEN,
SO YOU DON'T GET PINCHED!
Leprechauns are said to pinch anyone not in green, so wearing the color makes you "invisible" to them.
If you are wearing green and get pinched, you can pinch the person back 10 times.
