International Women's Day dates back to 1911, when many women were fighting for the right to vote. The United Nations (UN) began sponsoring the day in 1975. People around the world celebrate International Women's Day. In some places, women receive flowers or other gifts.
On September 19th 1893, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world to grant women the right to vote in parliamentary elections.
Saudi Arabia, in 2011, became the most recent country in 21st century to grant women's suffrage and also lifted the ban on women's driving in June 2018.
Women in Spain voted for the first time in 1931 with the age of 23 years old.
